My father called me up and told me he wanted to take Evan and me out for the day.  His plan was to have lunch and then go to Green River Farm in Willamstown.  Having just visited Whitney’s I was very interested in going to somewhere similar.  I had recently seen an advertisement for Green River Farm and checked out their website prior to my dad saying he wanted to make a day of it.  It seemed like a great place and I knew that Evan would be thrilled!

I met my dad at his house and after letting Evan play with his dog Rosa for a few minutes we started our adventure towards Williamstown.  We began our trip by heading down Route 7 through Lanesboro.  My dad grew up in Pittsfield and knows the history and sites well so as we were driving he was giving us an interesting history lesson on places as we  passed by them.  I never knew how much was around and how many wonderful people were from around these areas!  My dad asked if we were hungry and of course we were so we decided to have lunch at Bob’s Country Kitchen in Lanesboro.  They have some of the best home cooked food around and the staff is always polite I suggest this place for everyone!

With our bellies full of pure deliciousness we got back on track towards Green River Farm.  The journey was beautiful with lots of things to look at such as rock formations, rivers, and vibrant autumn leaves.  I wasn’t bored for one second!  We were getting closer and entered the national historic area of five corners were Green River Farm is located.  We turned the corner to enter the parking lot and you could already see that this was the place to be!  Everywhere you looked you could see that people were enjoying themselves during this gorgeous day.  We found a great place to park and discussed where we should head first.

The red barn where the petting zoo is

We decided that the first place we should check out was the petting zoo.  It was located inside of this incredible red barn.  You only have to pay $2-3 and then you get to enjoy all the animals.  They had so many different animals to look at but we went directly to the rabbits.  Evan was immediately all smiles when he laid eyes on them.  They had cows, pigs, goats, sheep, and an array of different birds you would normally see on a farm.  The different animals had signs that told you the names and a little bit about them so it would be great to take your children and teach them some new things about everyday animals.  They also have animal feed for sale for 25 cents if would like to give the animals a treat.

What would be better to have after enjoying animals on a farm than some fresh homemade apple cider? Our thoughts exactly, so we headed to the country store.  As soon as you enter the doors your nose is enticed with the aroma of rotisserie chicken.  The smell alone made my mouth water, I would NOT enter the store if you are hungry!  Besides the delicious smelling chicken the store also carried fresh meat, produce, an assortment of refreshments, and samples for you to try.  We made our way over to the bakery section for fresh baked cookies!  We picked out white chocolate cookies with berries along with apple cider and then went to the picnic tables to enjoy our snack.  There were many other families having picnics and letting their children play on the wonderfully crafted playground.

What a beautiful view!

Evan mingled with the other children for a few minutes enjoying the tire swing and many slides before we decided to leave.  We took a brief minute to finish taking in all our surroundings.  It was like we were on a page of a storybook everything was beautiful and just perfect.  We started walking towards the car and Evan noticed the tractors and the employees busily working.  I told him quickly how the farm works and let him look longer at the tractors because if you know my son or most little boys you know that they are fascinated by anything with wheels.  Green River Farm is a great destination nestled around all the beauty of  the Berkshires.  They also have a green house, pony rides, wagon rides, and a corn maze for the season.  Please take the time to visit and while you are there go and take a drive through downtown Williamstown.  It is a cute little town with great places to visit including Williams College which is one of the oldest academic institutions in the United States!
